I'd like to trade some tunes down the road.

I've got my guitar close at hand, and still have a few fresh ideas to hash out.

Thanks for the comment, Mitchell. I am seeing the truth in your statement, and went towards wordprss.com with the wrong ideas in my head.

I think that I'll be better off moving to a standard, self-hosted wordpress.org site so I can have more control.

A worthy experiment, though.

I would say that there is little interaction within the WP.com community. The "tag-surfer" feature make it easy to see what other people have got to say about certain subjects, but I don't think an "internal" community develops on account of it. The glory of WP.com, like an WP.org blog, is its ability bring in hits from all over the net.

I'm not certain about this, but I think you can link your own website into WP.com's communities through the Akismet anti-spam feature. This would promote your blog in their tag-surfing pages.

e.g. http://wordpress.com/tag/halifax/

The same could be said of Drupal or any other major package. PHP certainly has had its problems, and will probably have more in the future. I know of similar cases with Ruby and Perl, and am sure Python has had its share.

My only other alternative is to role my own, but then I have to be vigilant over my own blogging software. I don't have the time.

With a major package such as Wordpress, at least there is a community keeping an eye out and I get the features I need to do my job. It's just a manner of managing my risk.

Interestingly, when I think "Wordpress," I think "PHP and security holes." And that sort of vulnerability in your security blog would be doubly embarrassing. But I imagine the folks at wordpress.com know how to prevent such things, right?

Thanks!

My hope is that we can initially use the GarageBand pre-programmed drums and then roll our own to replace them.

But... I think that's gonna be harder than I want it to be...
